At Kracht Amsterdam, we believe that Olympic Weightlifting has something to offer to everyone. Which is why it’s part of our program, and we encourage our members learn to Olympic lift.


Whether you’re learning to move better, get stronger, look cool, or just keen on learning something new, Olympic weightlifting offers something valuable for everyone. And no, it’s not just for the die-hards.


Olympic Lifting in fitness: a powerful tool for strength & skill

Olympic Weightlifting, the Snatch and Clean & Jerk has a long history. But with the introduction of CrossFit, it has become much more popular recently. Not only is it a great way to build explosive strength, coordination, and mobility, but it also demands focus and control, and gives a nice mental challenge. And let’s be honest, if nothing else, having a barbell over your head makes you look super cool, and that’s worth something.


Who is Olympic Weightlifting for?


At Kracht, we believe that Olympic Weightlifting is for everyone, whether you're in our general classes or part of our SilverFox program.


That’s why we occasionally integrate Olympic Lifting movements into our regular classes. Now, because it’s technically challenging our coaches will always make sure to scale the movement and weight so that it’s save and accessible for all levels. Doing a partial variation like a hang power clean, or only a push press are very beginner-friendly Olympic Lifts and make for a great way to start. This way, experienced lifters and complete newbees can be in the same class and both be challenged at their own level!

Why do we Olympic Lift at Kracht?

The easy answer? Because it’s part of the classic methodology. But that’s not the only reason. We do it because it works.


Olympic weightlifting teaches explosiveness, body awareness, and even mobility — all qualities that transfer into other areas of fitness (and life). But also, it builds confidence. There’s something very empowering about mastering a new skill, especially one that looks complex from the outside.


Most importantly, it’s fun! Olympic lifting challenges differently. For many of the people in our community, learning these lifts keeps things fresh and exciting. It’s this kind of mental engagement that keeps people coming back, not just for the results, but for the process.
