Breathwork for performance, recovery, and regulation

This class is designed to help athletes and active individuals understand the crucial role of breathing in overall health, performance, and recovery. We often take our breath for granted, but the way we breathe impacts everything from our nervous system to our focus, digestion, and connection with others. In this class we will:
1. Bring awareness to your breath: learn to observe how you’re breathing, whether it’s shallow or deep, fast or slow, and how that affects your body and mind.
2. Understand the connection between breath and the nervous system: we’ll explore how breath controls your ability to move between fight-or-flight and rest-and-digest states, helping you regulate stress, relax, and recover faster.
3. Focus on self-regulation: discover how intentional breathing can help you calm down when you’re overwhelmed, improve focus during workouts, and recover efficiently after intense effort.
4. Improve recovery and sleep: learn patterns that optimize oxygen delivery to your muscles and support better rest and digestion, essential for athletic recovery.
5. Enhance sports performance: practice breathing techniques that boost endurance, stabilize core strength, and improve mental clarity during high-pressure moments.
The class will include a mix of theory and practice. We’ll start with a short explanation of how breathing influences your nervous system, performance, and recovery. Then, we’ll dive into practical exercises, such as:
• Slow, diaphragmatic breathing for relaxation and recovery.
• Breathing patterns to build focus and endurance during workouts.
• Techniques to down-regulate your system post-workout or in high-stress situations.
By the end of the session, you’ll walk away with actionable tools to optimize your breath for better health, resilience, and performance in and out of the gym.
